About

Hi, I’m Heather. I’m a writer, gardener, drummer, walker, amateur philosopher, and ex-archaeologist. I’ve worked in tech at Google since 2003.

And yes, things have changed a lot since then.

When I started at Google, the company had about 1400 employees, a scatter of jam-packed buildings in Mountain View, and maybe half a dozen products.

Today Google has over 150,000 employees, offices around the world, and I’d be surprised if anybody knows how many products.

In many ways I grew up at Google, but tech isn’t my only interest. Tools and gadgets. Gardening and philosophy. Organizational psychology. Poetry. Productivity and anti-productivity. Languages and linguistics. The role of work in society. Long distance walks.

I’m interested in all of it. And that’s what I write about, as the whim strikes me. (As is probably obvious, the opinions, ideas, and content I post are my own, not my employer’s. I don’t speak for Google, or for anyone else.)

My writing has been published in Modern Haiku and the California Writers Club anthology Fault Zone: Detachment. I’ve been a featured reader at Coastside Poetry and at LitCamp’s Lit Nights and Bay Area Book Festival event. I’m working on more.

Welcome!
